Monthly Archives: December 2012

If you’ve followed me for a bit, you’ll know I consider myself a lucky guy.

Good friends, great family, and my gosh, good pets!

What an awesome holiday it’s been.

One of the gifts I received for Christmas from Danielle and Jim was a Pasta Machine.

I’ve always loved pasta and anything pasta related, but had never had homemade pasta.

So, today, the better half opened up the pasta machine. I wasn’t ready, but guess what? She was!

Turns out, making pasta dough is easy.

3 eggs and 2 and 1/2 cups of flour, which I mixed in the standmixer.

I played with the dough a bit, added a little olive oil and water until it looked and felt right, and then we let it rest for 10 minutes.

Here’s where the fun began.

Pasta drying. Looks kind of creepy, doesn’t it?

Nance made a sauce out of basil and butter, and onion and garlic that really made the house smell good!

It was the best pasta I ever had.

My advice, and take it for what it’s worth, is make your own!

Here’s a shout out to all my friends out there.

Ran across a couple of bacon related holiday themed items in cyberspace today and thought I’d share, because that’s the kind of guy I am…..

First the Bacon Yule Log.

http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2012/12/watch-bacon-yule-log.html

When I was a kid I’d always watch the Yule Log on WPIX, Channel 11 on Christmas Eve. This looks even better!

In the lunch room today somehow we were discussing food, which is unusual, usually it’s World politics or Neuroscience, but I digress, today we were talking food.
Somewhere in the discussion Amy A. asked if we’d ever had bacon wrapped crackers, and to her surprise, we all said no.  When she described the process of making/baking them I had my typical Pavlovian response and had to look them up. Here’s the Pioneer Woman’s recipe (cue up Pavlov’s bell).

And Holiday Bacon Wrapped Cracker Apps (That’s apps as in appetizers, not Ipod Apps for all you kids out there)

Oink!

And that means Pizza!

So here it is!

My first pizza pic on TupperCooks2.

Not bad.

I’m trying to replicate DM Cav’s sauce. Basically crushed tomatoes, garlic and basil.

I went a little over the top with the tomatoes, using a whole 28 oz. can on this pie on my 18 inch pan.

I’m learning slowly.

In the comments below my buddy DM Cavanagh says he gets 4 pizzas worth of sauce from a 28 oz. can, and I agree with that portoipning, although the pan above is 18″, so I may go with 14 oz. next time, not sure that 7oz. would cover it.

Only one way to find out, right?

Well, motivated by my blogging friends Dr. Fugawe and Sasa, I’ve finally moved to WordPress from Blogger.
I’d been on Blogger with Tupper Cooks for almost 3 years.
Blogger is where I cut my teeth entering this crazy world in cyberspace.
Blogger is user-friendly and had I not run out of space for images I’d still be there being the lazy-ass I am.
That said, the good Dr. Fugawe has been hounding me forever to switch platforms, so Doc here we go on a new ride!
I will admit WordPress is a bit overwhelming at first, but I’m getting used to it.
And Sasa, after checking out your new blog, I was inspired to get started today!
While Tupper Cooks originally started out as a food related thing it evolved into more of whatever I felt like posting about.
TupperCooks2 will still have an emphasis on all things food, but I’ll probably expand a bit more into any mainstream or offbeat topic that inspires me to write.
So begins TupperCooks2 on 12/12/12.
How cool is that?
